O TRAÇO NEOBARROCO DE MANA BERNARDES

Abstract

This article proposes a neobaroque reading of the sound poems of the poet, designer, jeweler and visual artist Mana Bernardes. Currently in full activity, her production, both plastic and poetic, is distinguished for the appeal to materiality. In her readings of poems and in her performances, the artistic proposal of Mana Bernardes deepens to the point that it also exhaustes the concreteness of organic matter. Her own body is part of the poetic sign and wears words while reading them. In the work of the artist resides the oxymoron with a baroque matrix considering that what is presented to the public is the game between an art thought by and for the Brazilian bourgeois elite, but also consisting of popular elements, focusing on the ordinariness of the material used by her (either in the words of her poetry, or in the objects of her sculptures).
