GUERRAS CULTURAIS, FUNDAMENTALISMO EVANGÉLICO E NEOLIBERALISMO:

a situação das minorias sexuais em contextos africanos

Resumo

Pesquisas recentes têm mostrado a expansão das guerras culturais norte-americanas para o continente africano e o impacto deste processo na “politização da sexualidade” (KAOMA, 2014). Kapya Kaoma discute, nesta linha, o fenômeno da proliferação de igrejas evangélicas em muitos países da África de ex-colonização britânica. Tais igrejas, muitas das quais oriundas dos Estados Unidos, seriam animadas por uma agenda ultraconservadora em matéria de gênero e sexualidade e baseadas na hostilidade às pautas feministas e dos direitos sexuais. Para isso, discutiremos o termo guerras culturais, sua utilização e seu significado no contexto político norte-americano e como estratégia da direita cristã. Também, visamos a fornecer uma compreensão mais ampla do perfil da direita cristã norte-americana e de suas principais agendas políticas, nos Estados Unidos e na África. A tese das guerras culturais e de sua expansão para o continente africano deve, porém, ser complementada pela consideração dos impactos políticos e econômicos do neoliberalismo, em muitos dos países tocados pelas ondas de pânico moral e homofobia, como nos indicam os textos de Amar Wahab e Rahul Rao. Afirmamos que a tese da globalização das guerras culturais e a tese da implicação do fator neoliberal na produção da homofobia são teses complementares e não excludentes. E é assim que tentaremos apresentá-las neste texto.
