Lifting the anchor, hoisting the sails

a journey into the theoretical meandards of comparative literature, from hegemonic models to solidary comparatism

Abstract

Since its beginning in the 19th century until today, Comparative Literature (CL) has offered different routes for those who venture to navigate its theoretical-methodological orientations. Due to the plurality of voices that direct the path, we propose a symbolic journey through the theoretical intricacies of the area, with the objective of problematizing the traditional perspectives, and going through the constant updates regarding the object and method of comparative studies, until arriving at the solidary comparatism developed by Benjamin Abdala Junior (2003), (2012), (2014). In order to achieve this goal, we rely on the contribution of Pierre Brunel and others (2012), with regard to discussions of (LC) still as European academic subject, with the founding texts of the area by Henry Remak (1994) and René Wellek (1994), and with the critical production of Tania Franco Carvalhal (1991), (1992), Sandra Nitrini (2015) and Eurídice Figueiredo (2013).
