Abstract

Aware that reading is intrinsic to man and that words are part of the human essence, the objective of this article is to carry out an approach focused on reading the work Quarto de Despejo – Diário de uma favelada (2014) by the writer Carolina Maria de Jesus, as an act that provides experience. This is used, in the text in question, with the meaning addressed by the writer, teacher and researcher, Jorge Larrosa, in his book Tremores – Escritos sobre experiência (2022). The author defines it as everything that passes, that touches and that transforms the being, however, in contemporary times, many factors make it impossible to live the experience and to see the reading of a book as an act that provides it. In this sense, a bibliographical research was carried out as a method of approach, based on the careful reading of the literary production Quarto de Despejo: Diário de uma Favelada, a comparative study was produced with the book Tremores by Jorge Larrosa. From this, it became possible to understand in a more refined way how the meaning of the word "experience" is compatible with Carolina's diary. It was also possible to discover who is the subject who, when reading the book, is willing to transform it into an act that provides experience and what prevents the being from living the experience in contemporary times.
