"EU ERA UM TÍPICO PROFESSOR DA REDE PÚBLICA"
Abstract
This study aims at analysing the professional development of a São Paulo state school English teacher while taking an English language course taught by the researcher. More specifically, this study aims at gaining a better understanding, through the participant’s discourse, of how he described the impacts of the course on his teaching practices in the public school where he worked. This piece of research is grounded in the Human Sciences and subscribes itself to the Applied Linguistics field of investigation, therefore, it has assumptions of the qualitative paradigm of an interpretive nature and is based, essentially, on the constructs of Freire’s Education for Liberation (1970). This is a central concept to this article as it focuses on one’s collective ability to transform one’s practices and social contexts through each participant's conscious and collaborative actions. The corpus of analysis of this research is composed of the teacher’s answers to two questionnaires as well as reflective sessions carried out between the teacher and the researcher, which took place throughout the year in which the data were produced.
