Abstract

The relationship between Christianity and films has been conflicting since the emergence of this medium. The concern that films may negatively affect spirituality has led several Christian denominations to reject films for a long time. More recently, however, this resistance has diminished to the point where the churches produce its films. This study reveals a protestant church's perception of films in the field of spirituality. Through an online survey of 199 Brazilian Seventh-Day Adventists and the use of Cultivation Theory in interpreting the results, it was observed that in the modern Christian perception, some films, even non-religious ones, can be a positive influence for spirituality.
