Abstract

The study of the chemical profile of essential oil from resin of a species of the genus Protium contributes to the knowledge of the genus, which is widespread in the state of Acre, especially in the Alto Juruá region. The Protium hebetatum Daly resin, popularly known as breu, breu-branco, was collected in private property, in the rainy season, along BR-307, in the municipality of Mâncio Lima, Acre, Brazil. The chemical profile was analyzed by gas chromatography coupled to a mass spectrometer (GC/MS), recording in the composition of the essential oil 8 monoterpenes, 16 sesquiterpenes and 8 compounds that were not identified. The most relevant monoterpenic constituents were α-felandrene (17.36%), α-pinene (9.16%) and p-cymene (7.24%). Regarding sesquiterpenes, the main constituents were E-karyophylene (11.16%) and D-germacrene (10.24%). This essential oil showed bacterial activity against gram-negative bacteria: Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniaea, with a halo inhibition of 7.67 ± 2.89 and 8.50 ± 0.71 mm, respectively.
