Abstract

From a brief presentation of Charles S. Peirce’s phenomenology’s characteristics – considering his categories of firstness, secondness, and thirdness – this theoretical paper, elucidates an approximation between Peirce and Maurice Merleau-Ponty through the phenomenological path of alterity, a theme found in the two philosophers’ oeuvre, despite different perspectives. Therefore, it was necessary to highlight that the body is an own body – which symbolizes existence in a given space and time, searching for meaning – to stimulate semiotics’ inquiries. The theoretical foundation was mainly composed by works of Peirce (1958; 1975; 2015), Ika (2002), Downard (2015), Ibri (2015), Merleau-Ponty (2011; 2004) and Santaella (2017).
