The major-gomes (Talinum fruticosum (L.) Juss.) is a Neglected Plants with great economic and agronomic potential, due to its rusticity and nutrient richness, being a good food alternative, however, studies are scarce regarding its management. In this context, the objective of this work was to evaluate the characteristics and morphological and chemical responses of major-gomes under shading with colored screens. The design used was completely randomized (DIC), with five treatments and five replications: full sun control (T1), and 50% shading screens in blue (T2), red (T3), aluminet (T4) and black (T5). At 32 days after transplanting the seedlings, the following variables were evaluated: plant height (PH), number of leaves (NF), stem diameter (SD), leaf area (LA), number of lateral branches (NLB), fresh mass of shoot (FMS), shoot dry mass (SDM) and root dry mass (RDM), protein (PT), ash (AH) and lipid (LP) contents, all data were processed and compared by the test Tukey's (p<0.05). There was a significant effect for all variables, except for plant height (PH) and number of lateral branches (NLB). The species stood out positively under the shade of the red net, both morphologically and chemically, which is the ideal environment for cultivation.
