Chemistry is on the table: correlationships between habitus and cultural capital through patterns of food consumption

Abstract

The didactic activities were developed in a public school in Rio de Janeiro, aiming to establish possible correlations between habitus and the structuring character of capital, brought by a group of students from the 3rd year and their patterns of food consumption, through the proposition of a differentiated methodological sequence for chemistry teaching. The results showed that the habitus of the families is proportional to the level of education of the guardians, being evidence that the capital acquired by the student influences their behavior, in which even after access to information that led them to know new realities, the environment in which one lives and, especially income, are mostly influencers of the final actions of these students. However, through some results, it is necessary to expect that the school can be the transforming environment, contributing significantly to the change of attitude in the face of important issues involving Chemistry, Society and Health.
