Abstract

This work presentes a proposal for a didactic sequence for teaching the content of oxidation-reduction, through the Case Study method, and to analyze its feasibility in the classroom. For this, the Hercílio Luz Bridge, a postcard of Florianópolis-SC, was used as the theme. The work was aimed at high school students and part of the presentation of a simulated case that implies the following decision: “What to do with the Hercílio Luz Bridge?” To point out solutions to the problem, students need to understanding some chemical concepts and reflect on other issues of a social, economic and ethical nature, including the importance of historical heritage in the construction of a local identity. From the results obtained from this study, it was possible to observe that the case study method has great potential to awaken the interest of students in the process of teaching comprehensive content. This strategy tends to help students develop autonomy, reasoning and the ability to work in groups and solve problems.
