Abstract

The implementation of the Integral Education Program (PEI), carried out by the Secretariat of Education of the State of São Paulo, has as its main objective the universalization of education, covering issues of student retention and quality of education. Aiming to contribute to the debates about the insertion of this educational policy, this work consists of an experience report based on the monitoring of activities in a PEI school, located in the interior of São Paulo. The objective was to search for potential and limiting aspects for teaching in schools of the integral system. Data were obtained through the description of the activities carried out and through questionnaires applied to students and teachers. The results show that the PEI system, in fact, has potential for learning through contextualized teaching proposals promoting student engagement, especially in activities of the diverse curriculum. However, some limiting factors culminate in difficulties in the development of these actions as aspects associated with pressure to meet educational goals, results and issues related to teaching work.
