Experimentation is one of the pillars of the training of chemistry teachers and, therefore, it must be discussed and worked on in a broad way during all the teacher's formative stages. Using it as one of the main strategies for teaching is the great challenge, as it is still facing resistance from teachers and students. Given this scenario, we sought to identify the understanding of Chemistry students about the role of experimentation in initial training and how their experiences can contribute to their praxis. Data collection was carried out through the application of a questionnaire in a class of undergraduates in chemistry from a higher education institution in the from a higher education institution in scrubland. As a result of this research, it was noticed that students did not always have successful experiences with experimentation during high school, although they believe that during their teacher education, experimentation should be used as a strategy to enhance the teaching-learning process.
