EFEITO LARVICIDA DO EXTRATO ETANÓLICO DE Piper umbellatum SOBRE O MOSQUITO Aedes aegypti

The main transmitter of dengue, chikungunya, zika and yellow fever is the Aedes egypti mosquito, a vector that is difficult to control, which significantly affects several regions of Brazil. Chemical control, as a form of mosquito control, is widely used; however, the continued use of these products has led to the emergence of resistant populations. This situation led to the search for new compounds, less polluting to the environment and effective in their control. Within this perspective, the objective was to evaluate the insecticidal potential of the ethanol extract of Piper umbellatum on Aedes aegypti larvae. The results indicated 100% mortality in the larval phase, in all concentrations tested, a factor probably related to the presence of secondary metabolic agents, such as alkaloids, terpenoids and polyphenols, which have insecticidal action. The action of these metabolites, alone or in synergy, led to the death of the larvae, indicating the potential use of the species as an insecticide.
