Abstract

Abstract

Nanoparticles, in particular silver nanoparticles (NPs-Ag), are currently being used in several technological applications. The most used method for synthesis of NPs-Ag is chemical reduction, however green synthesis is gaining more and more space in research because this method reduces the production of undesirable residues, among them, those that cause damage to the environment. The present work describes the preparation, characterization and microbiological tests to evaluate the antimicrobial action of silver nanoparticles. The NPs-Ag were synthesized using the green synthesis method, using Humirianthera ampla extract as a reducing agent. The characterization of the nanoparticles was performed using spectroscopic analysis of UV-Vis and DLS to verify the size and shape of the nanoparticles and assays of biological activity in gram-positive, gram-negative bacteria and filamentous and yeast-like fungi. The UV-Vis and DLS analyzes showed the formation of spherical nanoparticles of size around 47nm. The results showed to be promising considering that the Humirianthera ampla extract and the nanoparticles by chemical reduction using sodium borohydride (NPs-Ag / inorganic) did not present any indication of antimicrobial activity, however, when associated the extract with the silver nanoparticles , by the green synthesis route, inhibited the microbial growth of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, which allows expectations for biomedical applications from future studies.

Keywords: nanoparticles, green synthesis, antimicrobial activity.
