Abstract

This article addresses the relationship between unemployment and suicide. Annual secondary data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, Mortality Information System, Health Surveillance Secretariat, Ministry of Health, were used for analysis using the Least Squares Method. For comparative analysis, data were used for unemployment and suicide from 1992 to 2011. Based on Arthur Pigou and Vilfredo Pareto with their theories on economic welfare and based on Émile Durkheim.
