POTENTIAL AND UNDER-USE OF THE COMPUTER ROOM IN GEOGRAPHY TEACHING IN A RIO BRANCO / ACRE SCHOOL
Abstract
This work is the result of an investigation carried out during the Supervised Internship in Geography I, at Senador Adalberto Sena State School, in Rio Branco - Acre. The objective of this study is to identify the potential of the use of the computer in the teaching of geography and its underuse in the observed school, pointing out the difficulties that the teacher encounters for the use of new technologies. It is characterized as qualitative research, which used as methodology participant observation, interview with the teacher and students of the school and bibliographic research. Many studies, such as Filho (2014) and Souza (2018), demonstrate the contribution that the use of the computer room and specific software such as Google Maps and Google Earth can make in teaching and learning subjects such as patterns of spatial occupation. , cartography, photointerpretation, landscape evolution and, consequently, have a positive impact on the understanding of the different elements that make up the spatial dynamics. During the research activities in the Internship, we identified that the computer room is not used as a didactic resource in the teaching of geography by the high school teacher given the reported difficulties: computers do not have Internet access for research and use of the software. Students regret the lack of access to the network. The school management could seek resources from the State Department of Education to maintain the machines, and invest in training qualified teachers interested in the use of new technologies. In an increasingly computerized world, the use of computers should be a common reality in schools, related to digital literacy, essential in contemporary social relations.
