This work reports on a didactic sequence (DS) applied to a second-year high school class in a public school, centered on the theme of homemade soap production to integrate chemical learning with environmental issues related to the improper disposal of household oils. The objective of this work was to promote educational autonomy, encouraging students to become active subjects with a mindset oriented towards sustainable practices. The DS followed principles of the dialogical and problematizing approach and the Science - Technology - Society perspective. The methodology included the application of questionnaires in three stages to assess the impact of the practice. The results showed that most students improved their understanding of the concepts involved in soap production and resource reuse, as well as a positive change in their perception of the importance of environmental education. Most expressed an intention to apply the learning at home, highlighting the practical relevance of the activity. The experimentation reinforced the connection between theory and practice, evidencing the importance of educational practices that promote autonomy and a critical and transformative education. This work strengthens the link between the university and the school community, contributing to environmental awareness and offering potential for socioeconomic improvements.
