A data survey was carried out on the critical points and potentialities of the fish farming production chain and with that to determine the sustainability index. The research was carried out in 15 fish farms in the municipality of Alto Paraíso, Rondônia state, through in loco visits to government agencies, and also in the fish farms, where a questionnaire was applied, the framework of the fish farms carried out using CONAMA Resolution no. 413/2009 and State Law (RO) no. 3437/2014. The results obtained identified that there is a high discrepancy between the records of fish farms in government agencies, demonstrating the lack of government commitment to the sector. According to the two legislations that provide for the classification of dimensions of the area of operation of small fish farms, they were the ones that represented the highest number. The research showed that the medium and large fish farms were the ones that showed the better sustainability indexes, with 54% of the fish farms and classified with good and adequate sustainability, in contrast the small fish farms showed in 46% and good sustainability, adequate and bad. However, this study points out that most fish farms have good sustainability indices, with a percentage of 47% fish farms having a good sustainability level, 47% adequate and 6% poor sustainability, which allows us to say that fish farms in Alto Paraíso has been ensuring what the inherent legislation and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) recommend.
