Abstract

The objective was to evaluate the level of environmental awareness of students of the Biological Sciences degree course at the Regional University of Cariri (URCA). The research was of the descriptive exploratory type, carried out through a bibliographical survey and application of a structured questionnaire with 12 objective and discursive questions about the behavior and lifestyle facing environmental issues of 40 students of the I and IX semesters of the degree course in Sciences Biologics of the URCA. The aforementioned students have shown concern for the environment, reflected through some actions, such as: reuse of cooking oil, proper use of water and electricity, seeking to know issues related to the environment, correct use of waste collection bins selective, seek to find out about facts related to the environment through the news, and practice the reuse of used paper. However, given the non-participation in events or activities related to environmental causes, the lack of knowledge of the existence of projects/programs at the university, and the non-performance of selective collection by most of the interviewees, it appears that the level of environmental awareness still deserves attention. Thus, it is necessary to adopt actions that allow a greater contribution to the preservation of the environment.
