Abstract

Self-medication is an important issue in society and can be relevant for contextualization in chemistry classes. This work presents an experience report of the planning and execution of a teaching sequence based on the Interdisciplinary Island of Rationality (IIR) methodology, proposed by Fourez (1997), based on Scientific and Technological Literacy for Youth and Adult Education. The proposal was developed from the qualitative analysis of the students' responses to a questionnaire. Initially, it was observed that students had difficulties in understanding the proposed activities, as they were not familiar with class debates. However, there was a greater interest and involvement of the class in chemistry classes and a survey, by the students, of issues related to daily life which were discussed chemically and together during the classes.
