The sex education in chemistry teaching: an analysis of production in the Revista Química Nova na Escola

Abstract

The present work aims to analyze how sex education in the chemistry teaching is treated in articles from the magazine “Revista Química Nova na Escola” (QNEsc) in order to present reflections on the approach to the theme in teaching and learning processes. The analysis of the articles, carried out qualitatively, also considers the way in which the subject is approached in the teaching and learning process of Chemistry and reflections on the relationship between sexual education and the current political situation in our country. The QNEsc magazine was analyzed in its entirety and the works were submitted to the Discursive Textual Analysis (ATD) procedures in which two categories emerged, the first dealing with the teaching and learning process of sexual education, signaling the need for broader look not restricted to purely anatomical dimension. The second category highlights the potential and limits of sex education in the school environment, highlighting the importance of not reducing the theme to purely conceptual aspects and valuing factors of a social order.
