Abstract

ABSTRACT

Reports from students of preparation teachers’ course reveal that their preparation in Brazil does not usually receive the same attention as bachelor's degree courses. The present work sought to identify the perception of undergraduate students in Chemistry about initial formation. For this, a field study was carried out, followed by a qualitative analysis of the data obtained through a semi-structured interview carried out with 15 students from the Chemistry course at the Federal University of Minas Gerais. From this data collection instrument, we found: 1. year of admission; 2. predominant period; 3. regularity in the course; 4. the type of school of origin (public or private); 5. identification with teaching; 6. knowledge and opinion about the curricular trajectory; 7. opinion about the characteristics and quality of the course; 8. individual satisfaction; 9. problems faced by students; 10. learning that they believe is essential for the good performance of the teaching activity. We conclude from the data that: 1st) scholars consider that there is a low supply of subjects aimed at the area of Education; 2nd) the licentiate course is seen as a copy of the bachelor's course in a good part of the curricular trajectory; 3rd) it seems to aim at training good researchers, but not good teachers.
