Abstract

The aim of this study was to discuss the importance of field trips as a tool for approaching environmental education based on the Xingó, Piranhas, Alagoas Project. Thereby, having its relationship with culture as a premise is important to insert it in the daily life of a school community, since it tends to contribute to changes in people's habits and traditions. Thus, helping them to take healthy decisions for their own living environment as well as providing a sustainable development for society. Data collection took place through questionnaires with undergraduates participating in the activity, interviews with city's residents and visits to spaces that are a part of the city's history. It was observed that there were changes on the undergraduates' environmental perception, because they experienced the impacts and benefits of the local culture through the Xingó Project implementation.
