This work aims to present the results of an investigation of ‘cordeis’ made by students of basic education through the theme cangaço and chemistry. The northeastern cangaço was used to bring the student closer to situations close to their reality. A thematic workshop entitled “the chemistry of cangaço” was developed, which was applied in different schools of basic education within the scope of PIBID/Chemistry of the Federal University of Sergipe/Campus de Itabaiana. As a result of the applications, the students created ‘cordéis’ that present excerpts with terms referring to chemical language (such as: "still water", "phenolphthalein", "chemical reaction"), historical/cultural aspects that portray the life and history of cangaceiros and verses that refer to artistic expressions of cangaço (such as: woodcuts and verses linked to the characters as something folkloric). From this analysis, it was observed that the students used expressions from chemistry to explain facts of the cangaceiros' lives, however, they were still at an initial level in the discussion.
