A teaching perspective on scientific literacy in junior high school

This research aimed to investigate the challenges and the possibilities about the development of Scientific Literacy in students of Junior High from the teachers’ point of view. Two Science teachers from a Municipal School in Porto Alegre, RS, were interviewed. The semi-structured interviews were categorized using the technic of content analysis according to Bardin. The interviews enabled the construction of three categories: Indiscipline, Experimentation and School and Curricular Planning which were subdivided into subcategories. The proposal presented, in its preliminary results, some possible paths to be taken and others to be avoided, in the search for a quality Science Education focused on the formation of scientifically literate citizens.
