Abstract

The control of gastrointestinal nematodes in sheep is still a great challenge for the Brazilian production. Synthetic molecules widely distributed in the market are used, however, resistance to them is increasingly common. Therefore, the use of new effective methods of parasitic control. Therefore, use of plants as antiparasitic agents shows promise. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the use of extract of croton sp as an antiparasitic agent, scientifically proving its use against larvae of gastrointestinal nematodes of sheep. For the antiparasitic evaluation, two mls were used at doses CL50 (197ug / ml) and CL100 (394ug / ml) and added in the faeces (2g) of naturally parasitized animals. The dose was determined from the toxicity test with Artemia salina. The efficacy demonstrated by the plant for the treatment of eggs and larvae of gastrointestinal nematodes of sheep, was 20% in LD50% and - 46% in DL100%. In the identification of the genera of gastrointestinal nematodes of sheep through coproculture identified the predominance of the genus Haemonchus sp. in all treated groups and in the control group. It is concluded that the ethanolic extract of croton sp in the concentration 197μg and 394μg showed low efficiency on gastrointestinal nematodes of sheep, suggesting that other concentrations are tested for an anthelmintic activity.
