Abstract

Curatella americana, a species of great occurrence in the Cerrado domain, plays an important role both for this environment of countless phytophysiognomies, as well as in the phytotherapic processes used by the population to treat and cure numerous diseases. The work aimed to carry out a systematic, phenological, phytochemical and phytomedicinal review of Curatella americana, as a possible guide for further research. The review was carried out using terms about Curatella americana, Dilleniaceae, phytochemistry and herbal medicine. During the discussion of the review, it was observed that only the aerial organs, restricted to stem bark and leaves, are used in the form of extracts, fractions and subfractions, however, the other aerial and terrestrial organs do not present studies, as well as for the classes of essential oils, oil-resin and fixed oil, which need studies. With this review, further work may be carried out aiming at other biological actions, as well as diversifying the secondary metabolism products that the plant can provide for new in vitro assays.
