Management aspects of the industrial-timber sector in the municipality of Rio Branco - Acre, 2016
Abstract
This study addresses the production of sawtimber in the state of Acre. If aims to analyze managerial aspects of the industrial-timber sector active in the Acre cities of Rio Branco and Porto Acre, in 2016. The data used were collected in ten sawmills operating in these cities in the year 2016. The methodology addressed how the timber businessmen from Rio Branco know, evaluate and are prepared for the topics, namely, emergence of a sustainability paradigm, competition for substitute products, restructuring the industry, economic and political changes, increased demand for high population agglomerations and globalization of trade and production. From the results generated: a) All entrepreneurs are concerned with sustainability and, therefore, use forest resources from forest management; b) Half of the interviewees reported that concrete competes with wood, just as wood panels compete with solid wood; c) All entrepreneurs reported that they feel the effects of the economic crisis and that they are not benefiting from political measures that minimize such effects and d) Half of the sawmill owners visited responded that the increase in the local population and the increase in income did not promote the increase in demand for wood.
